Discussion #6 — Withdrawing from Iraq - How Should the $12 Billion a Month Be Spent?
started on 2008-08-25@05:04:26(AM/UTC) [closed]
The U.S. spends $12 BILLION a month to fight the war in Iraq. The Bush Adminisration has suggested 2011 as the withdrawal date. The staggering amount of money that could be saved by immediate withdrawal is $432 billion. Pick your own withdrawal date - then tell us how you would spend the money you saved.

Today's vote closes at 5 PM, Monday, August 25th. Results will be sent as a 60-second news broadcast to Public News Service (PNS). If PNS picks it up, it will be broadcast via public radio in 38 states, representing over 4,000 stations, across America. Daily voting will continue through the end of the DNC, August 28th. Votelink is providing the only collaborative *Voice of the People* during the Democratic National Convention. This, then, is an invitation to "think together for the common good."

I'd like to see us pay down some of the national debt.

Pay down the national debt (again), rebuild this country on a stable and ecologically sustainable, financial foundation, one that works for all citizens of this country.  Inclusivity is a key, help to process all people in this country to include them in our "system" of being documented and legal tax paying citizens.  Make this country again, a country of the People, who are living and working  here.

Without an intelligent new generation nothing else can be accomplished well. Education for free and of a higher quality (ie: better ratios, better teacher training, etc.,) and quality food for  younger children will insure a new generation capable of solving some of the larger problems we will certainly face.
